இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் இயல்புடைய மூவர்க்கும்
நல்லாற்றின் நின்ற துணை.
Modern interpretation
A true householder does more than earn money or maintain a home. They support their family and help parents, children, and other dependants live in a good and secure way. For example, a parent who provides care, teaches responsibility, and supports an elderly relative is fulfilling the deeper duty of family life.

துறந்தார்க்கும் துவ்வாதவர்க்கும் இறந்தார்க்கும்
இல்வாழ்வான் என்பான் துணை.
Modern interpretation
A good household also has a responsibility to people beyond its own walls. It should offer support to those who have chosen a life of service, those facing poverty, and those who are left without protection or family. For example, a family can share food with a person in need, support a community shelter, or help a grieving neighbour. Domestic virtue includes caring for the vulnerable.

Modern interpretation
A household remains strong when its income is earned without wrongdoing and its resources are shared wisely. Wealth gained through fraud or exploitation can damage a family's honour, while generosity strengthens relationships and community. For example, a family may budget carefully, refuse dishonest earnings, and regularly share meals or supplies with relatives and neighbours. Such conduct helps the family continue with dignity.
