We may go to a meeting ready to complain, but affection can change our purpose the moment we see the beloved. Someone who rehearsed a serious complaint may forget it and reach for a hug instead.

When we finally meet someone we missed, their faults can disappear from our attention, just as eyes do not see the pencil applying their makeup. A partner may prepare to discuss an old hurt but forget it during the joy of reunion.
