நினைத்தொன்று சொல்லாயோ நெஞ்சே எனைத்தொன்றும்
எவ்வநோய் தீர்க்கும் மருந்து.
Modern interpretation
She asks her heart to find some remedy for a love-sickness that no ordinary medicine can cure. A person may try distractions and advice, yet still feel that only the absent loved one can ease the longing.

காதல் அவரிலர் ஆகநீ நோவது
பேதைமை வாழியென் நெஞ்சு.
Modern interpretation
Her heart suffers for someone who does not love her, and she calls that suffering foolish. Checking repeatedly for a reply from someone who has shown no care can keep the hurt alive.

Modern interpretation
She asks why her heart stays and suffers over the person who caused the pain, since he has no compassion for her. Replaying conversations with someone who will not respond only deepens the wound.

Modern interpretation
She begs her heart to take her eyes along when it goes to the beloved, because they ache to see him so fiercely. When the mind longs to visit someone, even the eyes seem restless for the sight.

Modern interpretation
She asks whether she can give up loving a person simply because he does not return her love. Caring does not vanish on command, even when a relationship has become one-sided.

Modern interpretation
Her heart pretends to stay angry, but it knows the beloved would quickly end the quarrel with affection. Someone may rehearse a serious complaint, then smile the moment the person they love walks in.

Modern interpretation

Modern interpretation

Modern interpretation
She asks her heart why it searches elsewhere when the beloved already lives within it. Looking through old messages or photos can feel like searching outside for someone who remains inside your memories.

Modern interpretation
Keeping in her heart the person who left without joining her causes her to lose even the beauty and strength she has left. Holding on to painful fixation can drain a person’s wellbeing, so love must not destroy the self.
