நண்ணேன் பரத்தநின் மார்பு.

Modern interpretation

She feels unable to embrace a partner who seeks every woman's attention, because love should feel personal rather than public. If someone openly flirts with everyone, the person who loves them may no longer feel their closeness is special.

Modern interpretation

Jealousy can turn reassurance into a comparison: saying, 'I love you more than anyone,' may make the listener ask who else is being compared. A careless attempt to praise one partner can therefore start a fresh quarrel.

Modern interpretation

Even a promise of lifelong togetherness can awaken fear of a future separation. When told, 'We will never part in this life,' a deeply loving person may hear the possibility of losing that person beyond it.

புல்லாள் புலத்தக் கனள்.

Modern interpretation

A lover may turn a loving statement into a playful accusation: 'You remembered me, so you must have forgotten me first.' When a partner says they were thinking of you, jealousy can make even affection sound like proof of neglect.
